This is a form of individual hair removal that works particularly well for stubborn facial and body hair as well as light, blond, red, grey or white hair on all skin types. that doesn’t respond to laser hair reduction.

The bulb of the hair deep in the dermis is treated with high frequency and radio frequency current. Where laser and Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments rely on the melanin in the hair being the chromophore attracting light energy, the Lamprobe current successfully targets the hair bulb irrespective of colour.

How does it work?

A probe is inserted down the natural opening of the hair follicle, a quick current is released, the probe is removed, the hair is then detached and the therapist easily slides the hair out with a tweezer.
In order to be able to treat a hair follicle, the electrologist requires a hair to be actively growing. This allows the follicle to be identified and for the probe to be correctly inserted into the follicle. Hence, it is necessary to wait for all growth cycles to appear. As only a portion of hairs are visible at any one time this means it can require treatments over a range of 12 to 18 months for all hairs to be found and treated.

What is Electrolysis?

Some would question, does electrolysis really work, is electrolysis still available, where is electrolysis available and did it not become obsolete with the onset of IPL and laser?

Electrolysis will never become obsolete. It is the only hair removal system that will remove any hair permanently, despite the hairs colour, as long as the practitioner performing the treatment is inserting the needle into the hair follicle to the bulb area. This is a highly skilled treatment. Yes, therapists performing electrolysis are few and far between.

 How Does it Work?

Electrolysis is the use of electrical energy to destroy hair germ cells in the papilla. Electrolysis uses two modes of electricity to get rid of unwanted hair permanently:

  • High Frequency  - the use of this alternating current destroys the dermal papilla of the hair follicle, by heating.

  • Galvanic  - this direct current changes the chemical composition of the dermal papilla, thereby destroying it.

  • The Blend Method  - this method uses both the above currents to destroy the dermal papilla, which has been found very successful in the permanent reduction of unwanted hair.

Electrolysis is best used on facial hair

The treatment is a little uncomfortable. When the current is released into the hair follicle, a slight stinging sensation is felt. The only side effects are a little redness & soreness in the area immediately after treatment, which settles down from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the sensitivity of the skin.

Soothing lotions or ice are recommended to help ease the tenderness. Following our After Care Plan will see you get quick results with minimal side affects.

Care should be taken to avoid going in the sun immediately, using soap, scrubs or picking at the scars if they occur.

Does Electrolysis work on thick, stubborn hair?

Yes, some hairs require more current as they have really large roots due to varying factors like hormonal influences, age and even ethnicity.

Does Electrolysis work on grey and blonde hair?

Electrolysis is not colour or melanin dependant so Electrolysis can be performed on all colours of hair even red hair that IPL and laser can’t be effective on.
